Plenty of learners around Tallaght change instructor partway through. Maybe the times stopped working, maybe you moved across from another part of the county, maybe the fit just wasn't right. The worry is always the same: do the lessons I already paid for vanish when I switch? They don't. Your finished EDT lessons follow you, and so does your place in the EDT timeline. Your lessons live on the testing-service system, not with one instructor

Every EDT session you complete gets recorded in two places. One is the physical logbook in your hand, stamped and signed by the instructor who gave the lesson. The other is the central record run by the Road Safety Authority, the MyEDT side of things, updated after each session. That second record is the one that matters when you switch. The lessons sit against your name on the system, not against one Tallaght school's books.

So when a new instructor takes you on, they can see the lessons already done and start from where you stopped. If you finished six near The Square and moved on, you do six more, not twelve from scratch. Nothing already logged is lost, and you don't pay twice for the same hour.

That central record is also why the order holds. EDT runs in a set sequence, lesson one through twelve, each building on the last. The new instructor has to be RSA-approved

This is the one hard rule worth knowing before you book anyone. The lessons only count toward your twelve if they're given by an RSA-approved instructor, an ADI. A friend with a full licence can give you practice on the Old Bawn Road, and that practice helps, but it is not EDT and it does not go in the book.

Any ADI can pick up your course, though. There's no rule that ties you to the school you started with, in Tallaght or anywhere else. Bring the logbook, and check it is current

Here is the part learners forget. An instructor can only sign the lessons they personally gave you. Your old instructor signs theirs, your new one signs theirs, and nobody backfills the other's work. So before you leave, make sure every lesson your old instructor gave is actually logged, both stamped in the book and showing on the system. A lesson taught but not signed is a lesson you'll struggle to prove.

Then carry the logbook with you to the new school. It is your record and you'll need it on test day at the Broomhill Road centre regardless.
